Doorwerth
The idea of this weekend is to prepare PhD candidates in the last years of their track for the specific challenges that await them. Among these challenges are the preparation of a thesis, meeting the deadlines associated with thesis defence and the choice of a further career inside or outside science. Next to this attention to the challenges, participants are offered the opportunity to reflect on the years spent obtaining a PhD: what have they learned, what have they not learned, what do they want to pursue in the future.
Elements include:
Working in academia, education, commerce and policy with examples.
How to obtain science funding.
The last phase: deadlines and requirements
Workshop: reflection on the PhD track
Furthermore, the idea is to create a situation where last year PhD's will be able to meet their peers are also working on the last phases and to whom they can turn for questions and advice. This is of particular importance for foreign PhD's in sandwich constructions but also for Dutch PhD's who are not from Wageningen. As in the weekend for the first years candidates, significant time will be spent on leisure and social activities.
Finally, the programme is designed to offer opportunities for interaction between PhD candidates in their first and last years.
