Overview: This public symposium and accompanying
workshop are intended to build links among conservation practitioners with
environmental scientists, and to help scientists better understand the practical
needs and demands facing conservation practitioners.
Revolving around the broad theme of ‘green economies’, this event will
highlight challenges and opportunities facing forests and biodiversity, focusing
particularly on balancing competing demands in land-use planning, payments for
ecosystem services, and eco-certification of forest products.
The symposium will help inform the general public, students and academic
scientists about the pressing scientific needs of conservation practitioners,
while the workshop will allow invited scientists and conservationists to
collaborate on several strategic, high-profile publications that highlight key
meeting themes.
