1. PE&RC PhD courses       

 
2.  PE&RC Weekend  (8, 9 and 10 October 2010)

The idea of this weekend is to make PhD students more familiar with what to expect during the PhD track and how to avoid major catastrophes and disappointments. Focus will be on the pit-falls you can encounter during the PhD and what the criteria are for a successful PhD within 4 years. Besides an introduction to the PhD programme, the role of the Graduate School plays as a process facilitator and activities that focus on important hurdles during the PhD, the weekend is also meant to get to know fellow PhD's and learn from them how they tackle issues. 4. Skills and competences courses organized by Wageningen Graduate School (WGS) 

  • Career Assessment  (You can register for an (individual) assessment each month)
    The career assessment can assist you in answering questions like: what could be my next career move after finishing my PhD? Do I want to stay in academia or take the step to corporate life? Which competences do I need (to develop) to succeed in my current and/or future job? How can I reach my career goals in a more effective way?

     

  • PhD Competence Assessment   (31 August (individual meeting 21, 22 or 23 September)
    This assessment (quick scan) focuses on one’s personal strengths and pitfalls in relation to doing a PhD study and how to overcome these pitfalls. The assessment will focus on competences such as organising capacity, analytical thinking, collaboration and personal characteristics.
     

  • Scientific Writing  (16, 23 September & 7,14, 28 October & 4 November)
    This course is intended for PhDs who want to learn how to write a good, clear and readable scientific article. Scientific Writing will enable you to improve and receive feedback on your writing and to discuss it with others involved in the same process.
     

  • Career Perspectives (19, 26 October & 2, 9, 16 November)
    Career Perspectives aims for preparation and conducting an effective job search. Career Perspectives is meant for young scientists (PhD candidates and postdocs) who know what they want, but have trouble getting a handle on how to find this job or even in general: the right track to follow the desired career.

  • Measuring Behavior 2010  (24- 27  August 2010) - Eindhoven, the Netherlands
    Measuring Behavior is the premier interdisciplinary event for scientists and practitioners concerned with the study of human or animal behavior. This unique conference focuses on methods, techniques and tools in behavioral research in the widest sense; from neuroscience and zoology to psychology and consumer behavior, and from human factors research to public safety and smart homes. Measuring Behavior 2010 is chaired by Boris de Ruyter (Philips Research).   • Making Water Knowledge Work - IWE Research Day - (September 3, 2010) Wageningen. the Netherlands
    The Irrigation and Water Engineering group (IWE) of Wageningen University organizes its yearly research day around the theme 'Making water knowledge work: bridging the natural and social sciences'.   • ERSCP-EMSU 2010 Conference on: Knowledge Collaboration & Learning for Sustainable Innovation (25 October 2010) Delft, the Netherlands 
    Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THU) and research organisation TNO together organise the 14th ERSCP conference and the 6th EMSU conferences in Delft, the Netherlands, in collaboration with various other (international) partners. The ERSCP-EMSU 2010 Conference is entitled ‘Knowledge Collaboration & Learning for Sustainable Innovation’. The aim is to bring together more than 400 academics, educators, business representatives and policy-makers involved in sustainable innovation, sustainable consumption and production, and sustainability in higher education. The option of having live discussions and exchange with a conference in Cape Town, South Africa, is being investigated. For more information click here.
     
  • International workshop: South AFrica (8-10 November 2010)- Organized by The University of the Western Cape from South Africa, together with Ghent University, Belgium (UGent) and Wageningen University Research (WUR) Centre for Development Innovation, the Netherlands , Nuffic (the Netherlands) and VLIR-UOS (Belgium) are organizing an international workshop on the role of university collaboration in innovation strategies, to be hosted by the University of Western Cape. For more information please click here The call for papers is now open with a view to inviting participants to attend this workshop. The focus is on sharing best practices and inspiring each other with experiences of successful initiatives. We aim to present approx. 25 papers during this workshop, with each lasting 20-25 minutes.The deadline for paper submission is 1 August 2010.
     
  • Scaling and Governance Conference 2010 (10 - 12 Nov. 2010)  Hof van Wageningen, Wageningen, The Netherlands
    Policies have many impacts on environmental and human processes at different spatial and temporal scales. Climate change, biodiversity, energy consumption, water resource management, and food security are a few of the many examples illustrating the complex multi-scale interactions within and between environmental and human processes. This observation fits well within a long history of disappointments in policy and management related to our environment and indicates that scale sensitive governance approaches are required.  For more information please click here.

  • Postdoc dynamic system modelling The Law and Governance Group focuses on the role of law and governance in the domains of food and natural resources.
    We analyze the often problematic and contradictory interaction of state and non-state rules originating from various sources of law and other forms of regulation, whether local, national or global. Within the framework of a collaborative project with the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL) and CERES Research School in the domain of global environmental change we are looking for a Postdoc.   • INRA (National Institute for Agricultural Research - France) INRA is recruiting 6 first class junior scientists. These open competitions are aimed at experienced scientists (able to design, present and lead a research project with team-leading and supervisory skills, in a collective framework).
