The main purpose of the Training and Education Programme is to guarantee a significant scientific level of all candidates graduated within PE&RC. The programme aims at both acquiring in-depth knowledge of specific research issues, as well as broadening the candidates scientific scope and competences, hereby integrating their own work in other research areas. These so called T-shaped skills allow for scientific flexibility in the post-doc career and are of great importance for the PhD’s future career since post-PhD occupation requirements generally extend that of specific PhD work.
More specifically the PE&RC Training and Education Programme has been set up to support the PhD candidates in reaching the end terms of the PE&RC PhD Programme:
Able to function as independent scientists.
Able to integrate their own work in the theoretical framework of their discipline.
Competent in identifying priority areas of research and in formulating questions and experimental hypotheses pertinent to this research.
Able to integrate their own work in a broader area of research
Competent in communicating and discussing the objectives, results and implications of their research in scientific journals, posters, and in conferences, seminars and other meetings with colleagues.
Familiar with current research in Production Ecology and Resource Conservation.
Once PhD candidates have been admitted to the WU PhD Programme (see Wageningen University), he/she can apply to be member of PE&RC. Application to PE&RC involves an approved PhD project proposal and Training and Supervision Plan (TSP) The TSP is meant to assist the PhD candidate in obtaining the T-shaped skills and reaching the end-terms mentioned above-mentioned.
Within the Training and Education Programme, PE&RC offers a wide variety of courses, seminars, discussion groups and yearly events such as the PE&RC annual meeting, PE&RC theme days and the PE&RC weekend. All educational activities are evaluated (oral or written) to enhance the curricula and guarantee quality on the long run. Click here for courses and activities that are currently on offer.
