THE PE&RC TRAINING AND EDUCATION CERTIFICATE

Introduction

At the end of the PhD period, when the PhD candidate has submitted the PhD thesis to the reading committee, the PhD candidate requests a Training and Education Certificate from by the Graduate School by submitting a Training and Education Statement Form (TESF). The TESF stipulates the training and education activities that the candidate has done, based on what was planned in the TSP form. The activities do not have to completely correspond with what was indicated in the TSP form as long as the Training and Education criteria are met. Thus, the Training  and Education Certificate expresses that the PhD candidate has fulfilled the PE&RC education and training criteria and is thus:

After approval of this document the PhD candidate will receive two different education certificates: one for publication in the thesis and a hard copy that will be handed over to the candidate after public defence of the thesis. In order to be approved, the document has to be signed by the candidate, the promotor and the PE&RC Education Committee. The Education Statement Form must be submitted at least 1.5 months prior to thesis printing.

Two copies of the Training and Education Certificate is issued as:

  1.  a copy which is published in the thesis

  2. a hardcopy which is awarded during the PhD graduation ceremony together with the PhD Diploma

Both certificates are mandatory for PhDs that started their PhD project after January 1st, 2002.

Procedure and Approval

To obtain the certificates the PhD candidate has to fill in the Training and Education Statement Form (TESF). The TESF has the same set-up as the TSP form in which the various categories and their criteria are stipulated. For more detailed information on what requirements have to be met regarding the educational activities click here.

The TESF must be submitted to the PE&RC office at least 1.5 month prior to the printing of the thesis! We recommend that the TESF is submitted to PE&RC at the same time that the thesis is submitted to the reading committee

In the TESF the PhD candidate lists all training and education activities he/she participated in during the PhD appointment. Before submitting a hard copy for approval, the PhD candidate is advised to send an electronic version to the PhD Programme Coordinator (Claudius.vandeVijver@wur.nl) who can check whether all requirements are met. Once the final version of the TESF is ready, the PhD candidate should:

  1. submit a hard copy of the TESF, signed by the candidate and the promotor, to the PE&RC office (Droevendaalsesteeg 4, 6708 PB, Wageningen, internal bode number 183).

  2. send an electronic copy of the final version to Maartje Moerman (Office.pe@wur.nl)

Subsequently, the office will send the TESF to the chair man of the PE&RC education committee for approval. Once signed by the chairman of the PE&RC Education Committee, the certificate will be compiled at the PE&RC office. The certificate that will be printed in the thesis, will be sent electronically to the PhD candidate and his/her supervisor. The certificate that will be handed over to the PhD candidate after public defence of the thesis will be sent directly to the secretary of the Doctorate Board.
