Global networks & International collaboration
9-12h, Friday 21 April 2023
Collaborative ecological research networks exist on every continent, with scientists working together to gather data on everything from viruses to continental carbon flux. But why and how might a researcher get involved in this type of work? This interactive workshop will discuss ways for ecological researchers to tap into research networks, expanding their professional network and placing their project into an international context. The workshop will begin by providing a general background on international networks. Workshop participants will be given an assignment to think big about their dream network to globally extend their work, then participants will develop short pitches for collaborative networks advance their research.
Learning outcomes
• Understand the different kinds of collaborative network structures and goals
• Understand some of the necessary skills as well as benefits and drawbacks of participating in network science
• Envision how to use large-scale collaboration in your own work to achieve scientific goals that are exciting to you, but impossible on your own.
