In the ideal world, PE&RC will be informed about the start of a new PhD project and the arrival of the prospective PhD candidate prior to its arrival in the Netherlands. One of the PE&RC PhD programme coordinators (Claudius van de Vijver, Sabine Vreeburg, or Naomi Zweerus) will then invite the PhD candidate to meet with him/her shortly after the candidate has arrived in the Netherlands. If the PhD candidate knows that his/her PhD project will be executed under the auspices of PE&RC, but he/she has not yet been contacted by Claudius, Sabine, Lennart, or Amber, he/she should take action and make an appointment with one of them.
The purpose of this meeting is to explain the role and value of PE&RC for the PhD candidate as well as the requirements related to the PE&RC PhD Programme. During this meeting, the PhD candidate will be advised on the use of the Training and Supervision Plan (TSP), how to fill it in, which educational activities are organised by PE&RC specifically and how to enhance progress in the PhD project. The candidate is expected to prepare for the introductory meeting by downloading the TSP form and going through its contents. Also, he/she is advised to go through the “PhD section” of the PE&RC website prior to the introduction meeting.
