Dear PE&RC members, be invited to the wonderful and captivating “Disease Ecology and Environment”-themed PE&RC Day 2023! Be our guests when we together with many interesting speakers will delve into the different aspects of disease ecology and environment in aquatic, terrestrial and human- systems. Further, we will host a podiums discussion and encourage collaboration between researchers of all fields to tackle challenging problems of our times. We start our exciting symposium with Wim van der Poel, who will give us as an experienced, international researcher a first peak into the world of Diseases, their history and how they emerged. Don’t miss an opportunity to connect to your peers, learn more about diseases and enjoy a professional, academic atmosphere. Lunch and dinner included!
The study of disease ecology focuses on the interactions between pathogens, hosts, and the environment. By understanding the complex dynamics of epidemiological processes and how this is affected by human activities, we can develop more effective strategies for controlling and preventing the spread of diseases and this it is clear that disease ecology has become an essential component to predict and prevent outbreaks of infectious diseases.
The PE&RC Day 2023 will focus on the latest research and insights in disease ecology, including:
The ecological and genetic factors driving the emergence and spread of new pathogens
The impact of climate change and human activities on disease transmission
The development of innovative approaches for controlling and preventing infectious diseases
We hope that this conference will contribute to the ongoing efforts to address the global challenge posed by diseases.
The PE&RC Day is an annual symposium organised by the PE&RC PhD Council (PPC).

In 2018, PE&RC initiated a call to stimulate collaboration between PE&RC members of Wageningen University and PE&RC members of other institutes via joint short-term PhD and/or postdoc projects. After four successful years, the call is set out again for 2023. We invite academic staff members of PE&RC to submit a proposal for institutional collaboration within PE&RC. Please be informed that pre-proposals must be submitted by e-mail to office.pe@wur.nl before Monday 2 October 2023, 09:00am! More information can be found here.
